First Date Conversation Starters
Going on a first date can be an uncomfortable experience for anyone. You probably spend hours trying to find the perfect outfit, get your hair just right and practice making conversations in the mirror at home! Bear in mind, that by and large all you really need to bring to a first date to make an impeccable impression is your self esteem, confidence and your personality! After all, when the date is said and done it is YOU that you want the other person to like- not some super imposed version of whom you really are. One of the tricks is to find some perfect first date conversation starters that will give your date a glimpse of just how intelligent and perceptive you really are as well as lend a hand to providing interesting conversation designed to compel date 1 into date 2! Why waste your time with small talk or ego boosting lines when you can save time and find out what this guy is really about!

One easy way to get the date moving in the right direction is to start talking about things that interest you. Whether it be art, a favorite collegiate team, charity work or yoga; bringing up a subject meaningful to you and asking questions or probing your date’s interest can be a good indicator of how well you two are matched. This isn’t to say that you will have all the same interests in life; but certain core ones that are important to you and your path in life will help you gauge compatibility in the long term. Of course, don’t bring up anything serious like marriage or having children at this point. You can also discuss certain tastes in foods or play a simple game of 20 questions or even truth or dare to keep things active and moving. Definitely avoid conversations about past loves or relationships!
If your date is wearing cologne you like or is new to the area asking questions about things like that can get the two of you communicating. Childhood experiences, favorite vacation spots or what their weekend plans are will not only give you insight but also keep the conversation moving. You should remember that most people like to have someone show in an interest in them and asking specifically directed personal questions will show them that you are interested in who they are as a person. Subsequently, they should reciprocate during the course of conversation. If they don’t, you may be dealing with a man who has a very large ego!

If a quiet moment or void occurs; try not to make a big deal of it and chalk it up to nerves and first date jitters. Laughing about it or making a joke may get things rolling again. Men in particular do not normally feel that every single second of togetherness has to or should involve conversation and they are often happy to just be. If you find yourself nervously rattling on and on; take a deep breath, admit your nerves and cut your self some slack. Although you may really like this person and want him to feel the same; there is little control you actually have over someone else’s feelings. Things will be or they won’t and the entire purpose of dating is to find one of those people that you feel absolutely comfortable with in their presence! When all else fails; do your self a favor by NOT offering idle talk or making your self appear ignorant just in order to hear the background noise of conversation. It is most important to remain authentic to who you are above all other things. Sometimes a perfect first date conversation starter can be a silence or a sweet kiss on the cheek.
